Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Almost all band festival and Band-O-Rama music is now in the hands of the students. Within the next couple of weeks, I should receive Eagle Valley Middle School's Band-O-Rama selections.  This music will be the main focus between now and April.  I will continually supplement this music with various warm-ups and technical exercises.

Advanced band and various intermediate band parents: I sent home a flyer that covered details about the spring trip.  Please let me know if you're chaperoning by bringing me the one-time chaperone payment of $150, first come, first served. I already have 3 confirmed chaperones as of this afternoon and I can only take a maximum of 8.  The 1st payment of $150 for the spring trip is due next Monday, January 20.

Honor Band Students: We are holding our second and final CMS-only honor band rehearsal on Thursday, January 16, from 2:30-4:00 PM in the band room.  On Monday, January 27, honor band students will meet at Carson High School to rehearse with all other band members that represent the other northern Nevada middle schools.  This rehearsal will include guest conductor Kevin Sady and will be held from 4:30-6:30 PM.

Percussion Students: The rehearsal previously scheduled this Wednesday from 2:30-4:00 has been cancelled.  I am holding an advanced band clarinet sectional instead.

February 1: Jazz in the Schools, UNR, All Day (jazz band only)
February 20-21: Honor Band in Fallon, All Day
March 8: Solo and Ensemble, Carson HS, All Day (optional event for those wanting to perform solos)
March 17: Jazz Band Concert, Community Center, Times TBA
March 27: NZNMEA Band Festival (revised from a typo that said March 20)


New Practice Sheet Format!
Practice sheets have gone digital!  Students will turn in practice sheets by submitting them online through a Google form.  I will only accept practice sheets submitted between 3:00 PM Monday and 3:00 PM Tuesday. The link can be found on the front page of http://www.cmsbands.org, your student's Edmodo account, or right here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1_bEsPWAafghbYSXQlFUD6wtN6wko88YuxcDsTMe8Lxs/viewform

By doing this, I hope to save a lot of paper and keep students from losing or forgetting their practice sheets.  Here's what your students need to practice this week:

Beginning Band: Crater Lake Overture, Morpheus, Essential Elements #100-121 and page 40, #1.
Concert Band: Imperium, Crater Lake Overture, Essential Elements Page 40: concert E-Flat major.
Intermediate Band: Chester Variations, Bryce Canyon Overture, In the Bleak Midwinter, Fussell Section 2, concert E-flat and F major.
Advanced Band: Chorale and Shaker Dance, Bryce Canyon Overture, Improvement March.
Strings: "Bach" Country Fiddles, Storm Chaser, Revenge of the Double Bass
Jazz Band: Oye Como Va, Blues Machine, Easy Money
